For most of our popcorn ceiling removal jobs, we use specialized machinery that allows us to reduce mess and increase productivity!

Phase One of Removing a Popcorn Ceiling:

To start, we fully prep a room for popcorn ceiling removal by covering the walls with plastic sheeting. We will also cover the floors and furniture as well.

The plastic on the walls and floors is often connected by adhesive or tape, to create a complete seal. This helps to ensure that the popcorn ceiling debris is contained, and not coming into contact with your clean walls and floor. After the room is properly sealed, we move our attention to the fixtures in the room such as lights and fans. We securely wrap those with plastic as well. The remaining step in the first process is to remove all ceiling vent covers so that we are able to remove the popcorn texture that is hidden beneath the vent covers.

Once the room is completely protected with plastic, we use a paint sprayer filled with water to wet down the popcorn ceiling texture. The amount of water that we use is determined by the finish on the ceiling, the density of the popcorn, and whether or not the popcorn texture has been painted. We use as little water as possible on each job that we do. After the popcorn is sufficiently wet, we can begin the process of scraping the texture from the ceiling.

After the popcorn ceiling texture has been removed, we begin the assessment process. Our drywall professional will look at the ceiling for cracks, damage, holes in the drywall,  drywall tape seams, or dents. Once the assessment has been done, we are able to complete any ceiling repairs necessary.

 Phase three of removing a popcorn ceiling begins with priming the cleaned and repaired ceiling. Once the ceiling is primed and completely dry, any remaining seams and holes will be skimmed out with special 'quick setting' mud. This process may be repeated multiple times in order to achieve a smooth end product. We will also sponge and sand the edges of the ceiling and tape to create a smooth finish as well.

Finally, we will apply the requested ceiling finish to the newly smoothed drywall. When the new ceiling texture is complete, we will remove the plastic from all walls, fixtures, and flooring and dispose of it for you. The last step is to make sure any and all small messes are cleaned up.
